Why the iPhone 7 Is Still a Great Choice in 2018

Each year, Apple along with other phone manufactures releases new phone models, despite the fact that the earlier models stay on the market. Is it wise to buy an older model for a cheaper price, or should you buy the newest addition to the iPhone family instead? In this article, we outline some reasons why buying the iPhone 7, released in 2016, is still a good choice in 2018.

Affordable price

Many people consider the phone’s price to be the most important thing when buying a new smartphone. When deciding how much you’re going to spend, you should consider what you’re going to be using the phone for and what the most important features are for you, among other things. The most expensive phone available isn’t always the best phone for every purpose.

It’s been two years since the iPhone 7 was released, and a brand new one currently costs between 600–700 euros. However, refurbished phones are also a sensible option and their price is naturally much lower.

Apple’s new flagship model, the iPhone X, costs around a thousand euros – double the price of a refurbished iPhone 7.

Beautiful range of colours

The iPhone 7 comes in five eye-catching colours: silver, gold, rose gold, black or jet black.

The iPhone 8 and iPhone X come in fewer colours. For example, there are only two different colours for the iPhone X.

Touch ID

Apple introduced biometric authentication in 2013 when the iPhone 5s was released. It was the first time for an iPhone to have fingerprint recognition, which provides a particularly easy way to unlock the phone.

The iPhone X has an edge-to-edge display, which means that the Home button is now gone – and with it, so is Touch ID. Instead of using a fingerprint, the phone can now be unlocked with facial recognition.

However, not all users have been entirely satisfied with the new Face ID feature and some of them still miss Touch ID. If you prefer Touch ID over Face ID, the iPhone 7 is a safe choice.

h3>Compact size

In terms of its dimensions, the iPhone X is a very compact smartphone. It has a 4.7-inch display and is clearly larger than, for example, the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s. The display is taller compared to earlier iPhones, which allows space for one more row of apps on the Home screen.

If you prefer a larger display but like the iPhone 7’s features, the iPhone 7 Plus is a good option.

Impressive display

There is lot of hype around OLED (organic light-emitting diode) displays. The OLED display functions without a backlight because it emits visible light. This lets it display deeper black levels and makes it thinner and lighter than an LCD display.

Apple uses OLED technology in the iPhone X.

The iPhone 7 has an LCD (liquid crystal display). It has been selected as the best LCD on the market in several comparisons and tests, and it has very rich colours and a superb contrast ratio.

In 2016, DisplayMate, a website that specialises in displays and video diagnostics found that the iPhone 7’s display is the sharpest LCD display ever tested.

Brilliant design

Let’s be honest: Apple iPhones are beautiful phones. They are thin, shiny and streamlined – simply a pleasure to look at.

Just like other iPhones, the iPhone 7’s design is also modern and up-to-date.

Some users prefer the design of the iPhone 7 over the iPhone X. The iPhone 7 has bezels (the borders between the screen and the phone’s frame) around the screen and no notch at the top, unlike the iPhone X. The notch can annoy some people when, for example, watching videos in landscape mode.

The newest operating system at your service

The iPhone 7 runs on the same operating system as the other iPhones, that is, Apple iOS. This means that the iPhone 7 gives you the same app ecosystem, functionalities and updates directly from Apple.

Apple is launching a new operating system this autumn – iOS 12. You can read what will change here.

Stunning camera

All the Apple iPhones have superb cameras that let you take fantastic photos and captivating videos.

The iPhone 7 camera isn’t significantly inferior to the iPhone X camera. Both of the phones have a 12-megapixel rear camera (although the iPhone X has two) and optical image stabilisation.

The iPhone X camera is slightly more polished and contains a few features that the iPhone 7 camera doesn’t. For example, it’s easier to take photos in darker surroundings with the iPhone X.
